french_stockPARIS: French stocks plunged by 2.66 percent within moments of opening Tuesday as Europe echoed Wall Street's disappointment in US growth measures.

The CAC 40 index dropped 77.96 points to 2,857, dragged down in particular by shares in French banks, which were already seen as overly exposed to risky Italian and Greek sovereign debt.
