Pakistan to host next Eurasia-Medium Forum: minister

fertBEIJING: Federal Information Minister Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday offered to host the next edition of Eurasia-Medium Forum in Pakistan.

She expressed Islamabad's willing to hold the Forum during a luncheon meeting with the Chinese Minister of the State Council Information Office Mr. Wang Chen here.

The Information Minister also on the occasion also briefed Mr. Wang Chen about his meeting held early Monday morning with the Chinese Education Minister with regard to establishing a Media University in Pakistan.

She said that Pakistan and China are good friends and cooperating with each other in various areas and exchange of media delegations between the two sides will help further deepen these ties of friendship.

Dr.Firdous said that there were vast opportunities existed for cooperation in using the media as a market tool to enhance bilateral trade, economic relations and cementing ties in many other fields.

She said that Pakistan was examining to provide landing rights to (CCTV) China Central Television because Islamabad also desired that Pakistan Television programme should be broadcast in China. This would help the people of the two countries to better understand each other.

She said that the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the premier National news agency of the country was also working to have a separate segment of Chinese language news and video service.

Dr. Firdous informed Mr. Wang that his visit to Pakistan this year to mark the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries "opened new doors of cooperation between the two countries".

Minister Wang expressed his thanks to Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan for her participation in the first ever China-Eurasia Media Forum despite her pressing assignments back home.

He said that a MoU of cooperation in the field of Media was signed during his visit to Pakistan in June this year.

He pointed out that during the next meeting of the Forum more information ministers will be invited to share their experiences.

He said that he got the feedback that the first Media Forum had been very successful.
