NEW YORK: The governor of New York state, Andrew Cuomo, declared a state of emergency Thursday in preparation for the expected impact of Hurricane Irene.
The measure is an administrative move to ease coordination between government departments and open the way to federal-level help.
"In this emergency I am activating all levels of state government to prepare for any situation that may be caused by Hurricane Irene," Cuomo said.
