ISLAMABAD: Chairman Metro Bus Project Monitoring and Implementation Committee Hanif Abbasi said Tuesday that government was determined to start Metro bus service in shortest possible time to provide modern travel facilities to the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Talking to APP Hanif Abbasi said the 24-kilometre Metro Bus Service will be signal free and the project is in final stages of completion. He said the Bus Service will bring a revolution in the public transport sector of the twin cities.
He further said that Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has directed the project contractors to increase labour force round the clock to complete the work. Abbasi said the project is likely to facilitate over 200,000 commuters in the twin cities who travel by public transport daily.
The Metro Bus Authority has started hiring staff, including drivers, conductors and other staff for the bus service, he said advertisements have been published in this regard, he added. The Bus Service would start from Flashman Chowk on Benazir Bhutto Road and end at Pakistan Secretariat. The buses would cover a distance of 23.2 kilometres through Benazir Bhutto Road, Faizabad, IJ Principal Road, 9th Avenue and Jinnah Avenue.
