ISLAMABAD: Tea imports in the country during twelve months of last financial year (2010-11) has registered increase of 23.36 percent as country consumed about 118,820 metric tons of tea costing $33.4 million.
According to the data of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the import of tea was recorded at 94,663 metric tons during the period from July-June (2009-10) costing $27.07 million.
However, the data revealed that the import of wheat unmilled decreased by 87.34 percent during the out going financial year as it dropped from 94,058 metric tons in 2009-10 to only 8,901 metric tons in the year 2010-11.
Meanwhile, the import of dry fruits and nuts also decreased by 0.16 percent as it came down from $8.73 million during the year 2009-10 to $8.70 million during financial year 2010-11, it added.
Soyabean oil imports during the period under review increased by 141.95 percent as country imported about 66,425 metric tons costing $6.66 million compared to 2,339 metric tons of $2.7 million of last year.
The data showed that import all other food items during the year 2010-11 registered an increase of 10.07 percent as compared to the same period of financial year 2009-10.
