ISLAMABAD: India released 514 Pakistani civil prisoners and fishermen detained in Indian jails from 2008 to 2011 while Pakistan reciprocated with release of 905 Indian civil prisoners and fishermen.
Most of the prisoners of the two countries were charged with illegally and inadvertent border crossing, visa violation or over stay.
According to official data available with APP, India released a total 300 civil prisoners and 214 fishermen. Showing a goodwill gesture Pakistan released a total 33 civil prisoners and 872 fishermen.
It was stated that there are 14 Pakistani prisoners in the Indian jails who have not been released despite completion of their sentences.
The High Commission of Pakistan has been pursuing their cases with the Indian authorities, however, the mission's efforts did not succeed because of the attitude of the Indian authorities.
The release of these Pakistani prisoners is subject of discussion between the two sides, the data revealed that Pakistan and India exchange lists of prisoners twice a year in January and July.
