Coal_TechnologyLAHORE: Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) has decided to set up two power plants with a capacity of 50 megawatts each at Sundar and Bhalwal industrial estates during this fiscal year.

It was decided at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the PIEDMC held at its city office on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by S.M. Tanveer, Chairman PIEDMC.

The meeting resolved that the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif was making efforts to maintain uninterrupted power supply and for building more power units in order to provide electricity and energy to the people of Punjab and its industrial and commercial consumers.

More power projects in two industrial estates have been envisaged in line with the vision of the chief minister of Punjab, S.M. Tanveer said. The preliminary work to set up these two power units has been completed and land has already been earmarked at both the industrial estates.

It may be mentioned that the PIEDMC has already established a special wing to look after energy affairs in all the industrial estates functioning under it.

The BOD meeting examined different options like coal, thermal, solar and gas. It was decided that the first ever coal-fired power unit will be set up at Bhalwal.

The requirements of coal will be met by indigenous sources, however, importing coal had been considered during the meeting at the initial stage of production.
