LUCKNOW: A packed passenger train derailed in northern India on Sunday injuring scores of passengers after 15 carriages were thrown off the tracks, officials said.
No deaths were reported immediately as emergency rescue teams worked at the scene to free people trapped on the train in Uttar Pradesh state, 150 kilometres (95 miles) south of Lucknow city.
"At this point we can say that scores of passengers have been injured and many are still inside the mangled coaches," Pradeep Ojha, a state railway officer, told AFP.
