imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that the time has come that the apex court should define the limitations of fundamental rights of citizens as the court was duty-bound to enforce these rights in their true letter and spirit.

The court also issued notice to all the political parties for resolving the ongoing political unrest in the federal capital that is also disturbing the whole country.

A four-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir ul Mulk heard the possible extra-constitutional case which was later on adjourned till September 3.

During the Tuesday's proceedings, counsel for Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Ali Zafar again requested the court not to intervene in this matter.

Upon which the bench held that the matter was not a political dispute but also a constitutional matter and under Article 199(2) of the Constitution, it has the prerogative to intervene in this matter.

During the proceedings, Chief Justice also said that while it was not his place to issue clarifications over allegations of bias, he said he only met with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan along with latter's counsel Hamid Khan when he was the acting Chief Election Commissioner.

The CJP went on saying that it was the maiden meeting between the both and it was regarding the introduction of biometric system of voting in Khyber Pakhtunkwa.

The Chief Justice remarked that secretary Election Commission of Pakistan and three PTI members were also present during that meeting. "That was the only time we met", he maintained.

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that there was a gross difference between many individuals regarding the exercise of fundamental rights adding that what kind of rights were those when some people attacked on PTV building and damaged it.

Justice Jamali also lamented that it has become a routine to level baseless allegations and malign the people.

Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja remarked that oath of all the parliamentarians and judges was under the constitution of Pakistan.

The case was then adjourned till September 3 at 11.30 am.
