ISLAMABAD: United Nations Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Herve Ladsous has said solid contribution made by Pakistan in the UN Peacekeeping Operation is widely recognized by the global community.
In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan, he said Pakistan has contributed more than eight thousand personnel mostly from the military as peacekeepers.
He said since 1960 after the start of UN Peacekeeping Operation, Pakistan has sent about one hundred and fifty thousand personnel for UN Peacekeeping Mission.
He said Pakistan's Peacekeepers are performing their duties in Darfur and Liberia as well Democratic Republic of Congo. They have also played a very important role in peacekeeping in West Africa. Three Pakistani peacekeepers have died in the line of duty in DR Congo, he added.
He said one hundred and thirty-four Pakistani peacekeepers have died since peacekeeping operation started in 1964.
UN Under Secretary General said Gen Maqsood Ahmed of Pakistan Army is acting as his advisor who encapsulates contribution which Pakistan has made in the peacekeeping mission.
To a question, he said United Nations has the support of Pakistan's leadership at the highest level for world body's peacekeeping mission.
