US calls for immediate release of detained American diplomat

lhr_shooting_raymond_davis_LAHORE: US embassy in Pakistan has called for the immediate release of the detained US diplomat Raymond Davis arrested on Friday for shooting two motorcyclists Aaj TV reported on Saturday.

Davis was sent on a six-day physical remand on Thursday.

The US says it is illegal to detain a diplomat due to diplomatic immunity but the authorities in Pakistan say he will not be handed over to any country or agency.

Davis shot dead two motorcyclists while a third person was killed when an official vehicle following Davis crushed the pedestrian to death.
