WASHINGTON: The World Bank's policymakers on Saturday called for the development lender to boost support of Arab countries in the wake of uprisings across the Middle East.
"Recent events in parts of the Middle East and North Africa will have lasting social and economic impacts, which will differ from country to country," the joint World Bank-IMF Development Committee said in a statement.
"We call on the Bank to strengthen its support to the Middle East and North Africa, working with governments and relevant multilateral, regional and bilateral organizations."
