ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani left here Saturday for Kabul on a day-long visit to express solidarity with the Afghan nation and support it in whatever decision it takes for its future.
Talking to reporters here at Chaklala Air Base Gilani said Pakistan wants that the transition process needs to be Afghan owned and it would get the full backing of his government.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Defence Minister Ahmad Mukhtar, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Director General Inter Services Intelligence Ahmed Lt. Gen Shuja Pasha and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir.
To a question he said significance of the accompanying military leadership was to signal that the entire nation and all stakeholders were on the same page regarding Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan wants a stable, soverign and prosperous Afghanistan, and would like to help it resolve all its issues. He pointed that this desire was evident from his second visit in four months.
Gilani would discuss with Afghan President Hamid Karzai bilateral relations and regional situation particularly in the wake of the gradual withdrawal of U.S troops from the strife torn country.
