ANKARA: Turkish President Abdullah Gul conferred on President Asif Ali Zardari the highest Turkish State Order Medal "Devlet Nishan" at an impressive investiture ceremony here on Wednesday.
The citation read on the occasion said: "The Order of State is being presented to H.E. President Asif Ali Zardari, a distinguished statesman who has played an important role in carrying the friendship between Turkey and Pakistan with renewed vigor to the next generations.
H.E. President Zardari stands out with his constructive and unifying character. His efforts on combating terrorism and developing the economy of Pakistan are some of his other positive attributes.
The wise leadership that H.E President Zardari displayed during the flood disaster was followed with appreciation throughout the world.
H.E. President Zardari, who also attaches importance to improving the foreign relations of Pakistan, has contributed immensely towards furthering the friendly Turkey-Pakistan relations.
During the presidential term of H.E. Asif Ali Zardari, a significant number of high level visits have taken place between Pakistan and Turkey. The first meeting of the High Level Consultative Council between the two countries has also been held during his term.
During H.E. President Zardari's tenure, the close cooperation between the two countries at international platforms has intensified. Turkey and Pakistan have exhibited close solidarity and concrete cooperation on regional and international issues. The Trilateral Summit process between Turkey, Pakistan, and Afghanistan initiated in 2007 is a noteworthy example.
H.E. President Zardari actively participated in the meetings held in the framework of the Trilateral Summit process and strongly supported the implementation of the decisions taken therein.
Since H.E. President Zardari has taken office, his policies and statements demonstrated that he is a committed friend of our country."
