ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) suffered losses to the tune of Rs.5425.384 million and Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) received a loss of Rs.3324.436 million due to last year floods.
In a written reply, Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar informed the National Assembly on Thursday that as many as Rs.806.248 million was spent on the restoration of transmission lines in the flood affected areas.
The minister said that numerous measures were being taken to minimize losses due to floods. The measures included, Mangla Dam Raising Project, construction of Munda, Kurram Tangi and Diamer Basha dams which would help store around 11.79 million acres feet water.
He said that 32 medium dams would also be constructed in all provinces in two phases. In first phase, 12 small dams would be constructed and remaining 20 dams would be constructed in second phase.
In a written reply to another question, Naveed Qamar apprised the House that land measuring 6,814 acres was acquired from Toorghar (Kala Dhaka) during the construction of Tarbela dam project.
The owners of the said land were compensated through political agents or District Coordination Officer Mansehra, he said.
