Pakistan successfully reduced trust deficit with US: Farah Naz Ispahani

Published Updated

Zardari_obama_400ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has now successfully reduced the trust deficit with the Americans that prevailed during last days of previous government said Farah Naz Ispahani, a media adviser to the president.

While talking to Radio Pakistan, she strongly rejected the impression in media that the US Vice President Joe Biden has insisted Pakistan or he has warned that the US patience on North Waziristan was wearing thin.

She said that she in person was present during the meeting between US Vice President and Pakistan President and no such thing was mentioned in this regard.Rejecting the report associated with Mr Biden, she said that the media sources at times advance their hidden interests.

She questioned why such a report has been published on front page at a time when the President has embarked on a four-day private visit to US. She said though it is a private visit but he will hold high level meetings in the US.

She said Pakistan is a sovereign country and enjoys good relations with the US. Since the democratic government took over it has reduced greatly the trust deficit prevailing in last days of Musharraf government.

On the other hand no one in the world including the US deny the achievements Pakistan government and forces have made in war against terror, she added.

She said detailed talks definitely are held on different issues like economy, security and counter terrorism and on bilateral issues at different levels and also with Mr Biden. It is an open secret that US gives much importance to Haqqani network.

Responding to a question whether Pakistan government, civilian administration, armed forces and economic situation allows Pakistan to take action and meet the US demand, Farah Naz Aspahani said that the devastating floods and martyrdom of Governor Salman Taseer have shattered entire Pakistan. The country is facing political and economic problems which the civilian government has to tackle.

She said we understand what the US wants but US should also realize Pakistan's problems as Islamabad cannot take any action in haste. US being an ally should understand internal situation of Pakistan and realize its problems.

Farah Isphani said that Pakistan is undergoing a crucial period and there is need to take decision very carefully and in coordination with all the stakeholders; civilian government, armed force and others.
