KARACHI: Exports have touched the highest ever monthly figure of $ 2.5 billion in March this year, showing a rise of 41.1 percent over last March.

This was stated by the Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) while sharing exports figure of July-March 2011 here on Saturday.

"Exports in March 2011 were estimated at $ 1.77 billion", he said and added that the exports were above $ 2 billion mark for the consecutive four months.

Puri said that cumulative value of exports for the period July-March 2010-11 was $ 17.8 billion, up by 26.5 percent as against $ 14.072 billion over the same period last year.

He was confident that with the existing growth rate, Pakistan's exports would cross the $ 22 billion mark during 2010-11 as against the target of $19 billion.

He said that the trend shows that Pakistan export of traditional items would grow by 50 % while exports of non-traditional items would grow by more than 30 %.

He said that imports during March 2011 were valued at $ 3.417 billion registering a growth of 4 per cent over the level of imports valued at $ 3.287 billion in March 2010.

Similarly, cumulative value of imports for the period July-March 2010-11 was $ 29.016 billion as against $ 25.107 billion, registering a growth of 15.6 per cent, over the same period last year.
