ISLAMABAD: A 7-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry heard the Hajj corruption case on Tuesday.
The SC directed the government to remove Director General Federal Investigation Agency (DG FIA) from the probe in the case.
During the hearing, DG FIA Waseem Ahmad requested the apex court to separate him from the investigation.
Chief Justice Ifitikhar Mohammad Chaudhry directed the government to act quickly on DG FIA’s s request. The CJP summoned the report of removal of DG FIA within three days.
The statement of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, recorded by the FIA on the directions of the SC, was also presented before the apex court.
However, Azam Swati showed dissatisfaction over FIA’s investigation of the case.
The Apex Court adjourned the hearing of the case till January 20.
Director General FIA (DG FIA) Waseem Ahmad, at the previous hearing, revealed that the names of Rao Shakeel and Ahmad Faiz were withdrawn from the Exit Control List (ECL) at the behest of Rehman Malik.
