ISLAMABAD: With the financial support of international community through United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), around US$8.5 million spending on the infrastructure development of Afghan refugees who are living in the different parts of the country.
This was discussed in the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees and UNHCR during a roundtable discussion on how to implement the various aspects of the strategy, says a press release on Friday.
Last year in the month of March cabinet was approved a strategy on the Management and Repatriation Strategy of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
UNHCR has mobilized additional support for local communities in Pakistan that generously host millions of Afghan refugees for the last three decades.
The Ministry of SAFRON and UNHCR have been working closely to find ways of how to implement processes and procedures reflected in the strategy.
UNHCR said that with the full support of the Governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the International community, a successful implementation of this strategy will help resolve the protracted refugee situation by offering alternative options and paving the way for lasting solutions.
Earlier this year, the government established five provincial sub-level committees with well-defined roles and responsibilities.
The committees include one on Repatriation and Reintegration, as well as Bilateral/Trilateral Consultations. Another will deal with Visas and Legal Residence Considerations and Regulations.
The voluntary return operation resumed this March after the winter break. So far, 2,500 individuals have gone back home to Afghanistan. At least 3.7 million Afghans have returned home from Pakistan with UNHCR's help since 2002.
