SANTIAGO: Chile's economic activity rose 2.4 percent in August from the same month a year ago, slightly weaker than expected, as a rebound in the mining sector was balanced by a slowdown in construction, the central bank said on Thursday.
The IMACEC economic activity index, encompassing about 90 percent of the economy tallied in gross domestic product figures, came in below Reuters forecasts for 2.7 percent growth.
In comparison with July, economic activity increased a seasonally adjusted 0.3 pct. In the first eight months of the year, accumulated growth was 1.0pc.
