LISBON: Portugal's current account surplus rose sharply to 370 million euros ($412 million) in the first four months of the year from 78 million a year ago, data released by the Bank of Portugal showed on Wednesday.
The improvement came despite a 27 percent rise in the deficit of trade in goods, and the combined surplus of goods and services narrowed to 171 million euros from 513 million a year ago.
Portugal has been running current account surpluses for the past four years.
