imageTANDO MUHAMMAD KHAN: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari here Monday inaugurated the Indus River's longest bridge named Sir Aga Khan Jhirk Mulla Katiar Bridge. The bridge from Mulla Katiar (TM Khan district) to Jhirk (Thatta district) spans over 1.75 km in length and built at a cost of Rs 4.5 billion.

Talking to reporters on the occasion, Bilawal said the Sindh government was improving the infrastructure and preparing long term plans to address the issues being faced by the people of the province. The PPP had always struggled for the betterment of the common people, he said and added that launching of Benazir Income Support Programme was aimed at facilitating the poor people. He termed terrorism a great challenge and said that success against it could be achieved by thoroughly implementing the National Action Plan.

Responding to a question about no prompt medical relief to the victims after Sehwan suicidal blast, he said that all available resources were utilised by the provincial government to provide maximum relief to victims.

The culture and customs of Sindh as well as the mysticism were the best ways to spread the message of love, peace and affection, and to control extremism, he added.

About shortage of water in Sindh, the PPP Chairman said the issue must be tackled by bringing improvement in the canal system with better lining.

Responding to another question of the announcement of Irfanullah Marwat to join the PPP, the party chairman said that the doors of party remained opened for all but Irfanullah Marwat had just held a meeting with Asif Ali Zardari instead of making announcement of joining the party.

To another question, he said he would soon join the parliamentary politics. He was engaged in reorganisation of the party all over the country in order to take part in the next general election, he added.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and his government for constructing the longest river bridge under public-private partnership and hoped that this communication facility would bring rapid economic development in the province.

The Sindh Chief Minister said that the 1.75 kilometer long bridge had been constructed with an amount of Rs 4.5 billion in a record period of three years. After the construction of the bridge, Tando Muhammad Khan had now been connected with National Highway and it would help in early contacts of the population of rural parts to urban areas of the province as well as rapid development of agriculture and industrial sectors. MNA Syed Naveed Qamar was also present on the occasion.
