ISLAMABAD: A total of 326 cases of violence against women have been registered in Islamabad in last seven years (2008-2014), Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said.
In a written reply to the question of Nawabzada Saifullah Magsi in Senate, he said the 11 cases of domestic violence have been cancelled, 302 challaned, 4 remained untraced and 9 cases are still under investigation.
Giving breakup he said 34 cases had been registered in 2008, 49 in 2009, 57 in 2010, 51 in 2011, 40 in 2012, 52 in 2013 and 43 in 2014. While 34 cases were challaned in 2008, 46 in 2009, 54 in 2010, 51 in 2011, 35 in 2012, 47 in 2013 and 35 in 2014.
Giving seven years (2008-2014) details of untraced cases of violence against women, he said only 4 cases remained untraced included 1 each in 2009, 2013 and 2 in 2014.
The cancelled cases were included 2 each in 2009, 2010, 4 in 2012 and 3 in 2013. The under investigation cases were included 9 in 2014. Only two culprits were convicted one each in 2010 and 2011.
While 34 cases were acquitted in last seven years included 5 in 2008, 11 in 2009, 6 each in 2010, 2011, 4 in 2012 and 2 in 2013.
Giving details of compromise cases, he said 9 case have been compromised in 2008, 8 in 2009, 12 in 2010, 7 each in 2011, 2012, 4 in 2013, 1 in 2014.
About under investigation cases, he said 218 cases are still under investigation included 20 cases of 2008, 27 of 2009, 35 of 2010, 37 of 2011, 24 of 2012, 41 of 2013 and 34 of 2014.
He said Women Protection Act 2006 has already been promulgated for protecting the rights of women. The Act is intended to introduce few social reforms safeguarding the rights of women for protecting their rights . The offence Zina (enforcement of Hudood Ordinance) 1979 except those contained in Holy Quran and Sunnah have been declared Tazir offences and inserted in PPC.
