LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Syed Raghab Abbas Shah said on Tuesday the authority was working on more than 20 power projects of 20,000 megawatts in view of increasing demand of electricity in the country.
In a press briefing at WAPDA House, the WAPDA chairman said all projects would help store 12 million acre feet water and six out of the 20 projects would be completed by June 2013 and 5,000 megawatt power would be added to the national grid.
"WAPDA has devised a comprehensive plan for using its resources and work on all projects continues particularly on the Diamir-Bhasha dam," he added.
He told the media the government had allocated Rs 13.78 billion for the Diamir-Bhasha dam and the process of purchasing land in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa continued rapidly.
Giving details of other power projects, he said all possible steps were also being taken for the construction of the Neelum Jhelum hydropower project according to its schedule of 2016 while the engineering design of the Dasu hydro power project of 4,320 megawatt would also be completed by March 2013.
