Taylor Swift's new song breaks chart record

Published August 23, 2012 Updated August 23, 2012 12:23pm

taylor swiftKARACHI: Taylor Swift’s latest single ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ became the second fastest-selling song ever in terms of US downloads last week.

The 22-year-old singer has broken a US download record for a female artist.

The track hit to the top of the US download charts, selling over 623,000 copies in its first
week on sale.

It is behind only Flo Rida and singer Ke$ha’s ‘Right Round’, which sold 636,000 in its first
week back in 2009.

The song also hit the Billboard Country singles chart, as her music has attracted fans of
both country and pop.

“Taylor appeals to a younger female demographic that tends to buy a lot of music and after
the years, she’s become a staple of two pretty popular formats, country and pop, and she’s
able to manipulate both formats and be played across both,” Silvio Pietroluongo, director of
charts at Billboard said.

Swift will release her fifth studio album ‘Red’ in October this year.

The “Love story” hit-maker is expected to perform a new song at the 2012 MTV Video Music
Awards on September 6.

The six Grammy Awards winner has sold over 22 million albums and 50 million songs downloads
worldwide.
