Arabica coffee futures on ICE fell back from an earlier 3-1/2 month high on Wednesday and sugar prices also slid as Brazil's real currency weakened against the dollar.

A weak real can encourage Brazilian producer selling by raising the value of dollar-priced commodities such as coffee and sugar in local currency terms.

December arabica coffee was down 0.1 cents, or 0.1%, at $1.0560 per lb at 1449 GMT after peaking at $1.0710, the highest level for the contract since July 24.

Dealers said concerns about dry weather in Brazil had persisted despite some recent showers.

"Even though we had decent rainfall in Brazil this weekend, the amounts are still not high enough to eliminate the hydric deficit. More rainfall is needed," Rabobank said in a market note.

January robusta coffee was unchanged at $1,339 a tonne after rising to a peak of $1,358, the highest level for the contract since Sept. 17.

The harvest in top robusta producer Vietnam is underway but may be delayed by forecast rains.

"Rainfall is still expected in robusta areas in Vietnam this week, which would delay the harvest. In principle we expect the rain to go away in a timely manner to avoid significant quality problems," Rabobank said.

March raw sugar was down 0.11 cents, or 0.9%, at 12.60 cents per lb, slipping back after the prior session's rise to a one-month high of 12.73 cents.

Dealers said the market had been supported by downward revisions to the 2019/20 production outlook in India although many expect a rebound in 2020/21 following recent rains.

December white sugar fell $7.00, or 2.0%, to $340.80 a tonne. The front month rose to a peak of $350 on Tuesday, its highest since late February.

March London cocoa was down 11 pounds, or 0.6% at 1,827 pounds a tonne.

Dealers noted further evidence that demand growth remained sluggish following year-on-year declines in third quarter cocoa grinds in both Europe and North America.

The global chocolate confectionery market grew by 1.8% between August 2018 and August 2019, according to Nielsen data issued by Swiss chocolate maker Barry Callebaut on Wednesday along with its 2018/19 full year results.

March New York cocoa fell $20, or 0.8%, to $2,480 a tonne.
