An Accountability Court on Friday extended physical remand of former managing director Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) in the multibillion rupees Karkey Rental Power (RPPs) scam. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced former managing director PEPCO Rasool Khan Mehsud before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir on expiry of his physical remand. The NAB officials requested the court to extend physical remand of the suspect to conduct further investigation from him and recover more record.

During the previous hearing, the prosecutor told the court that the NAB had conducted investigation but in the earlier reference Mehsud was not an accused. He told the court that there is an allegation of receiving kickbacks and misusing authority against the accused.

The court after hearing arguments approved the NAB's request and extended physical remand of the accused till October 30.

The NAB has filed 12 references related to the RPPs in Accountability Court. Former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is the principal accused in the scam. The references include Turkish ship-mounted power plant (Karkey), Piranghaib in Multan, Sahiwal in Sialkot, Guddu in Sindh, Naudero-II in Sindh, Naudero-I in Sindh, Reshma Power Generation in Raiwind, Young Gen Power Ltd, Bhikki, Sheikhupura, Gulf Rental Power Pvt Ltd and 150MW Sharaqpur.
