HAMBURG: The Taiwan Sugar Corp. has issued an international tender to buy 30,000 tonnes of corn to be sourced from the United States, European traders said on Monday.

The tender closes on June 26, they said.

Shipment was sought from the U.S. Gulf between Aug. 27 and Sept. 10 or from the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast between Sept. 11 and Sept. 25, they said.

Taiwan Sugar was also seeking to purchase a consignment of U.S.-origin soybeans, they said.

Taiwanese buyers have been active recently, taking supply cover as global corn prices rose sharply.

Taiwan's feed industry procurement association MFIG on June 12 purchased about 65,000 tonnes of corn expected to be sourced from Brazil.

Chicago corn futures climbed more than 2% on Monday to hit a five-year high as more rain and flooding in parts of the U.S. Midwest are likely to curb corn production.
