HAMBURG: Taiwan's feed industry procurement association MFIG purchased about 65,000 tonnes of corn expected to be sourced from Brazil in an international tender which closed on Wednesday, European traders said.
The corn was all bought at a premium of 89.00 US cents over the Chicago December corn contract on a cost and freight (c&f) basis, traders said.
The seller was believed to be trading house Bunge.
The tender had sought yellow corn sourced from the United States, Brazil, Argentina or South Africa.
No offers were reported for corn from the US, Argentina or South Africa.
"Brazilian corn totally dominated the offers," one trader said.
The tender had sought shipment between Sept. 17 and Oct. 6 if sourced from the US Gulf, Brazil or Argentina. If sourced from the US Pacific Northwest coast or South Africa, shipment was sought between Oct. 3-21.
Two South Korean groups also bought corn in tenders on Tuesday, ending a lull in Asian corn buying.
