Embassies of Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Tunisia jointly arranged 'Semaine de la Francophinie' or 'Francophonie Festival' here at Centre Culturel Francais on Saturday. This included screening of three feature films, language reading completion, food festival and a musical evening.
In his address, Belgian Ambassador to Pakistan Frédéric Verheyden said the event was attended by more than 500 visitors who were entertained by movies and music band. He said, "Francophonie is an international organisation and also a community of people and the event was reflection of what we could do in term of movies, food, music etc."
Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia Adel Elarbi said it was a privilege to participate in Francophonie event along with other ambassadors. He said that organisation was for dialogue and peace and helped the countries knew each other more. The Embassy of Tunisia also arranged a 'dictation competition' and three winners were distributed awards.
Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Tunisia arrange food stalls where they served the visitors with their local food brands. A number of foreign and local people attended the event and enjoyed the sweets. Veronique Wagner, Counsellor Embassy of France told Business Recorder that the international organization of LA Francophonie was created in 1970. "It mission is to embody the active solidarity between its 88 members states and governments (61 members and 27 observers), which together represent over one-third of the United Nations' member states and account for a population of over 900 million people, including 300 million French speakers," he said.
"Mr Moll and the Chocolate Factory," a film from Switzerland, "Los Corroboradores," a film from Argentina, and "A Better Life," a film from Tunisia, were screened at the event. These were followed by a concert by "The Wild Mangoes" (Alliance Francaise).
