Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary board on Thursday officially announced party candidates for Sindh province to contest the upcoming general election. The PTI parliamentary board met here under the chairmanship of party Chairman Imran Khan to decide final candidates for 24 out of 61 National Assembly general seats in the Sindh province.
The party decided that Imran Khan will be contesting election from NA-243, Karachi. The party also announced PTI candidates for 51 provincial assembly seats in Sindh. Senior leader of PTI Dr Arif Alvi will contest elections from NA-247, Karachi, Ali Haider Zaidi from NA-244, Karachi, Faisal Wada from NA-249, Karachi, and Liaquat Ali Jatoi from NA-234, Dadu.
The Board decided that party leader Haleem Adil Sheikh will contest elections from PS-99, Shamim Naqvi from PS-101, and Imran Ismail from PS-111. Meanwhile, the PTI has also requested caretaker chief minister of Punjab to immediately suspend Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, newly appointed vice chancellor of Punjab University (PU) who was appointed by former Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
PTI senior leader Andleeb Abbas in her letter to Punjab caretaker chief minister Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi wrote that Dr Akhtar's appointment on June 2, after the announcement of the election schedule on May 31, clearly violated the Elections Act, 2017. In the letter, a copy of which is available with Business Recorder, Andleeb Abbas said that as per law, any political appointment made after the announcement of election schedule is illegal and so he should be removed for his position forthwith.
Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar was notified on June 2 as PU's new vice chancellor following an interview conducted by former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif two days before his government's tenure ended. Quoting Section 5(4) of the Elections Act, 2017, Andleeb wrote, "Any government or authority shall not post or transfer any official appointed or deputed in connection with an election without prior approval in writing of the commission including posting or transfer the decision in respect whereof has not been implemented, and the commission may itself issue necessary directions to any such government or authority for posting or transfer of any official."
