As many as 2968 candidates submitted nomination papers for 151 seats of National and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly (PK) for 2018 general elections to be held on 25 next month. A total of 1009 candidates filed nomination papers for 52 constituencies of the National Assembly (NA) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the recently merged Fata and one Frontier Region for 2018 general election. According to ECP officials, 1959 candidates have submitted nomination papers for 99 general seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
A total of 68 candidates filed nomination papers for five NA seats and 310 candidates for 14 PK seats from Peshawar. Prominent among those filed nomination papers for NA seats from Peshawar including former federal minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour of ANP, former information minister KP Shah Farman of PTI, former deputy speaker Khushdil Khan, Amir Ayub of PTI, former Town I Nazim Shaukat Ali, former federal minister for communication, Arbab Alamgir Khan PPP and former provincial minister Syed Zahir Shah.
For two NA seats for Naushehra, a total of 27 candidates submitted nomination papers including former chief minister Pervez Khattak from NA 25 Kohat, his son-in-law, Imran Khattak from NA-26 Naushehra-11 and Luqman Qazi from MMA. As many as 29 candidate submitted papers for two NA seats of Charsadda including ANP leader Asfandyar Wali Khan and Qumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao. A total of 41 candidates filed papers for three NA seats of Mardan including former KP Education Minister Atif Khan (PTI), former chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti (ANP) and former federal minister Khwaja Muhammad Khan Hoti (PPP).
Similarly, 41 candidates entered in the electoral battle and will contest for two NA seats from Swabi, 18 candidates for lone seat of Kohat, 30 candidates for one NA seats of Karak, 20 each for one each Hangu and Bannu seats, 28 candidates for one Lakki Marwat seat and 36 candidates for two NA seats of DI Khan including Fazlur Rehman of JUIF and Faisal Karim Kundi (PPP). For the seats of National Assembly of Abbottabad, 49 candidates filed papers whereas 14 will try luck on one NA seat in Tank and 16 for one seat of Haripur.
A total of 41 candidates submitted papers for two NA seats of Manshera-Cum-Torghar, 26 for one seat of Kohistan, 15 for one seat of Battagram, 65 candidates for three NA seats in Swat, 21 for one seat in Buner, four for single seat for Shangla, 18 for one seat of Upper Dir, 10 candidates for two NA seats of Lower Dir, 18 for one seat of Chitral and 28 candidates for lone seat of Malakand. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also filed nomination papers from NA-8 Malakand. Sixty nine candidates filed nomination papers from national assembly from Khyber, 21 from Mohmand, 26 from Bajaur, four Orakzai, 76 from Kurram, 41 from North Waziristan, 69 from South Waziristan and 20 from one Frontier Region.
For KP Assembly, a total of 310 candidates submitted nomination papers for 14 PK seats from Peshawar, 90 candidates for five seats from Naushehra, 999 candidates for five seats of Charsadda, 150 candidates for eight seats of Mardan, 105 for five seats from Swabi, 58 from three seats from Kohat and 53 candidates for two seats from Karak. Similarly, 58 candidates filed papers for two PK seats from Hangu, 71 for five seats from Bannu, 73 for three seats from Lakki Marwat, 87 for five seats from DI Khan, 20 for one seat of Tank, 101 for four KP seats from Abbottabad and 60 for three seats from Haripur.
A total of 116 submitted their nomination papers for five PK seats in Mansehra, 13 for one seat in Torghar, 48 candidates for three seats from Kohistan, 37 for two seats of Battagram, 174 for eight seats of Swat, 58 for three seats from Buner, 25 for two seats of Shangla, 61 for three seats of Upper Dir, 26 for five Lower Dir seats, 27 for one seat of Chitral and 39 for two seats of Malakand. Top political leaders including former CM Punjab and PMLN president Shahbaz Sharif, PTI chairman Imran Khan, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, JUIF Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, former president General Pervez Musharraf (retd) and PML-N KP president Engr Amir Muqam have also filed nomination papers in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to contest the coming general elections from KP.
PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif filed nomination papers for NA-3 Swat-II whereas PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari filed nomination papers from NA-8 Malakand, PTI chief Imran Khan for NA-35 Bannu and president of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and former President General Pervez Musharraf (retd) from NA-1 Chitral. In Shangla, former health minister and PTI leader MPA Shaukat Ali Yousafzai and Rushad Khan of PML-N had filed nomination papers for PK-23 and PML-N provincial president Amir Muqam's papers will try his luck on NA-10.
Central Amir of JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP's Faisal Karim Kundi filed nomination papers from NA-39 Dera-II in Dera Ismail Khan. The official said security process of nomination papers of all candidates is continued in the province and would be completed by June 19 with an assistance of the national building institutions including NAB, FBR and State Bank of Pakistan.
