Prime Minister Former Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk Wednesday directed Ministry of Religious Affairs that especial attention should be paid and maximum facilitation should be extended to the aged pilgrims and to those with special needs.
The Prime Minister who was briefed on the working of the ministry and Hajj Operations 2018 wanted the Religious Ministry that feedback received on all aspects of Hajj arrangements should be fully utilized to further improve the affordability, arrangements and facilitation of Hujjaj (pilgrims) in future.
Secretary Religious Affairs Khalid Masood Chaudhry informed the Prime Minister about various functions of the ministry including formulation and operationalizaion of Hajj Policy as well as on Ziaraat, Umrah and collection and disbursement of Zakat. He also briefed the Prime Minister on policy formulation for promotion of inter-faith harmony, management of Evacuee Trust Property, Ruet-e-Hilal and ensuring error-free printing and publishing of the Holy Quran.
While briefing the meeting about the preparation on Hajj operations 2018, he stated that 374,857 applications received this year under the government Hajj Scheme are reflective of the confidence of general public in government managed Hajj operations. The Prime Minister was informed that 10,000 seats are reserved this year for the applicants of over 80 years of age along with one physically fit attendant. Similarly, 12,235 applicants who remained unsuccessful continuously for the last three or more years have been declared successful to perform Hajj. He also briefed the Prime Minister about pre-departure trainings of the Hujjaj as well as transportation and accommodation and other facilities that have been arranged to facilitate pilgrims.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made so far by the ministry for ensuring smooth Hajj operations. The briefing held at the Prime Minister's Office was attended by Minister for Religious Affairs Muhammad Yousaf Sheikh, Secretary to Prime Minister Suhail Aamir, Secretary Evacuee Trust Property Board Muhammad Tariq and other senior officials.
