Thalassemia Eradication Council chairman and executive director of Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF), Ateeq Ur Rehman has urged for massive blood donation to save lives of Thalassemic children.
On Blood Donors Day, he said there is a dire need of blood banks for collection of blood through donations from regular donors and also recruiting new donors to ensure blood stocks at blood banks. We, at AMTF are facilitating blood donations as campaign to raise awareness of blood shortage and importance / impact of donating blood.
Transfusion of blood helps in saving millions of lives every year. It can help patients suffering from life threatening conditions, live longer and with a higher quality of life. The theme of this year's campaign is "Blood Donation as an action of solidarity" which highlights the fundamental human values of respect, empathy and kindness underlining the sustention of voluntary unpaid blood donation systems. WHO adopted the slogan for this year as "be there for someone else, give blood, share life."
He added that AMTF will struggle more aggressively for collection of blood donations after Ramazan in order to create handful stock at AMTF blood bank all year around. Also to promote awareness that blood donation is an philanthropic action that benefits all of society and that an adequate supply can only be ensured through regular donations by voluntary unpaid donors.
