Criticizing the Supreme Court's directions for former President General Pervez Musharraf to file nomination papers conditionally, deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that it is beyond comprehension and above the law that a person who is facing a treason case has been permitted to contest the general election.
Talking to reporters informally inside the Accountability Court hearing corruption cases against him and his family, Sharif asked if there is any law which empowers the Chief Justice to extend guarantee and give such an offer to a person who is the prime accused in a treason case, the Akbar Bugti murder case, the Lal Masjid operation and the May 12 Karachi violence.
"Where does the Article 6 of the Constitution stand now and where are these cases?" he asked, saying a person who is accused of treason has been given conditional permission to file his nomination paper while his plea for exemption from personal appearance before the court to visit his ailing wife has been rejected. "Under what law has Musharraf been allowed to contest elections? Such sections of laws should also be taught to me," he said.
