The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered for the arrest of owner of Everest Pharmaceuticals for manufacturing fake enhancement drugs. Muhammad Usman, owner of the drugs company, was taken into custody by the Islamabad police from the Supreme Court premises. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard a complaint lodged by Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) with its Human Rights Cell against the company.
The bench, during the hearing, also ordered the suspension of Bahawalpur's Regional Police Officer (RPO) Raja Riffat who is accused of protecting and supporting the company's owner Chaudhry Muhammad Usman. However, the court withdrew its order later and allowed RPO Riffat to serve until March 8.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice also directed the DRAP CEO to visit the Everest Pharmaceuticals factory along with his team and inspect the drugs being produced there. CEO DRAP Dr Sheikh Akhtar after visiting the factory informed the court that they have taken the imported raw material.
He, however, requested the court to provide him and his team protection. The Chief Justice on his request directed inspector general of police to provide protection to DRAP CEO and his team members and place police guard at the factory. The hearing was adjourned until March 8.
