Teams of district administration Saturday conducted raids in different bazaars and took into possession Ajinomoto (Chinese salt) from the shopkeepers. In wake of orders issued by the Supreme Court, the provincial government has imposed a ban on the sale, manufacture and import of Ajinomoto. For this purpose, Chief Secretary KP Azam Khan has issued directives to the administrative heads of all the districts to immediately initiate action against those manufacturing, selling or importing Ajinomoto within their jurisdiction.
On the directives of the chief secretary, district administrations had launched three-day campaign across the province to ensure that the item is removed from shelves while the general public is informed of its effects details. He has also directed the Additional Chief Secretary for federally administered tribal areas (Fata) to carry out similar campaign across the tribal belt involving all political agents.
The ban has been imposed in wake of recent research that Ajinomoto is injurious for health. The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Peshawar has urged the people that Ajinomoto is injurious for health. Therefore, they should stop its use.
