Mardan District Council: Jirga help resolves dispute between ruling, opposition parties
The dispute between the ruling and opposition parties in the Mardan District Council has solved after the intervention of Jirga and reaching an agreement on Saturday. A Jirga solved the issue between the ruling parties and opposition parties in MDC and asked the ruling parties to allot seats on opposition benches to Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) who left the ruling parties alliance in the council.
It may be noted that tension cropped up among ANP, PTI, JUI-F and PPP on the issue of not allotting seats to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl members on opposition benches and also not allowing to JUI-F parliamentary leader Maulana Amant Shah to talk on point of order in the council session which was held on February 21. During the session the opposition in the council became anger on the attitude of Nazim and convener and tore the copies of agenda and chanted slogan against the district Nazim.
However due to the tense situation in the council, district nazim and naib nazim left the council meeting without delivering speech. The opposition members blasted on district nazim and said that district nazim instead of solving the issue pending in the council has started bullying and thrashing heads of the institutions.
Later on the opposition members reached the district Nazim office and allegedly removed the portrait of Awami National Party (ANP) leaders Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (Bacha Khan) and Abdul Wali Khan from there. In reaction the ANP members and workers become angry and reached the PTI tehsil nazim Mohammad Ayub Khan office Mardan and broke the furniture, tore the files and remove the portraits of Imran Khan and Parveez Khattak from there. However District Police Officer (DPO), Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed with a contingent reached the district Nazim office to control the situation. Later on both the ruling and opposition parties in the council arranged separate press conference at Mardan press club and accused each other and also put allegations of corruption on each other.
Both the groups announced to attend the council meeting held on the other day at 9.00 am along with their workers to show their strength due to this announcement of both the ruling and opposition parties a danger of clash was created among them. However a Jirga included by Deputy Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh, District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed, JUI-F district Ameer Maulana Mohammad Qasim, Abdul Subhan Khan, Zar Bacha advocate, Haji Khan Akbar, SP-Operation Gul Nawaz Khan and others was organized to solve the issue.
The Jirga members has started negotiations with the leaders of ruling party and opposition party and at late night the Jirga has succeeded to convince both the groups to cancelled their protest and council session which was scheduled on the other day. On Friday, the Jirga members had succeeded to made compromise between the ruling party and opposition party at a meeting held at Pakhtunkhwa House (Circuit house).
