Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has so far introduced four-year bachelor course in 100 colleges of the province and next year it would be extended to 100 more colleges. This has been stated on the floor of the provincial assembly in response to the questions of legislators. Responding to the questions, Provincial Minister for Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani said the era of the two-year graduation had over and now the four-year degree course was adopted around the world.
Initially, the course has been started in 100 colleges with the ratio 62:38 ratio of boys and colleges and from next it would be extended to all the remaining colleges in the province. For the purpose, the provincial government is hiring lecturers and providing resources to the universities. For the regulations and monitoring of the performance of the public sector universities, the KP government has planned the establishment of an independent and autonomous Provincial Higher Education Council (PHEC).
The public sector universities are getting funds through Higher Education Commission (HEC) of the federal government and considering themselves responsible to it. Therefore, the provincial government has decided the establishment of Provincial Higher Education Council. After the establishment of the proposed council, the provincial government will provide funds to universities through it. The council will also be responsible for the financial and quality audit of the public sector universities in the province.
