Ministry of Water Resources has proposed Rs 101 billion for 25 development projects under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the forthcoming Budget-2018-19. According to documents available with Business Recorder, the Ministry has proposed Rs 39.75 billion for two new initiative mega projects for Budget-2018-19.
The Ministry proposed Rs 47.1 billion for nine development projects for dams - water storage, Rs 8.6 billion for three projects of conveyance canals, Rs 3.9 billion for two projects for drainage and reclamation, Rs 280 million for two projects of research, investigation and monitoring and Rs 1.42 billion for seven projects of engineering studies. The Ministry proposed Rs 2 billion allocation for Nai Gaj Dam, Dadu Sindh (Revised), Rs 1 billion for Darwat Dam, Jamshoro Sindh, Rs 500 million for Raising Mangal Dam, Rs 100 million Kurram Tangi Dam Project Stage-II, Rs 200 million for Bara Dam Project, Khyber Agency (FATA), Rs 50 million for Gomal Zam Dam (Revised) South Wazirstan and Rs 50 million for Satpara Multipurpose Dam Skardu for financial year 2018-19.
The Ministry also proposed Rs 5 billion for on-going Kachi Canal Project Phase-I (Revised) for next Budget-2018-19. The Ministry proposed Rs 1.5 billion for Lower Indus Right Bank Irrigation and Drainage Project and Rs 2.1 billion for Remedial Measures to control Water Logging due to Muzaffargarh & TP Link Canal, Kot Addu, District Muzaffaragarh. The Ministry also proposed Rs 50 million each for Research Studies on Drainage, Land Reclamation, Water Management and use of Drainage Water and Land Water Monitoring/evaluation of Indus Plains.
A total of Rs 68 billion throw forward as on 1st July 2018 and cumulative expenditure up to June 2018 of total foreign aid is calculated at Rs 65.01 billion for federally funded provincial projects (Sindh Projects) including: (i) Rs 2.387 billion throw forward for revamping/rehabilitation of irrigation and drainage system of Sindh, (ii) Rs 26.27 billion for extension of right bank outfall drain from Sehwan to Sea Dadu and Thatta District Sindh, (iii) Rs 5.86 billion for lining of distributaries & minors and (iv) Rs 16.16 billion throw forward for Sukkur Barrage rehabilitation and improvement project. About federal funded Punjab projects, the total throw forward is Rs 48.8 billion including (i) Rs 12.25 billion for Irrigation System Rehabilitation Punjab phase-1, (ii) Rs 24.26 billion lining of irrigation channels Punjab PC-1, (iii) Rs 5.1 billion for Ghabir Dam, Chakwal Punjab, (iv) Rs 1.88 billion for channelization of Deg Nullah and (v) Rs 5.3 billion for construction of Papin Dam.
About federal funded Balochistan's project, throw forward as on 1st July 2018 is Rs 32.71 billion including (i) Rs 1.14 billion for Toiwar/Bathoza storage dam district Killa Saifullah, (ii) Rs 7.61 billion for construction of 100 dams in Balochistan (package-III), (iii) Rs 8.6 billion for construction of Mangi Dam and Water Conveyance System, (iv) Rs 1.4 billion for construction of 100 Small Dams in Tehsil Dobandi, Gulistan Qulla Abdullah and Chaman District Qilla Abdullah and (v) Rs 290 million for Wam Tanai Dam, Harnai Balochistan etc. About Federally funded ongoing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K.P) projects, there is Rs 142.94 billion for seven projects of throw forward as on 1st July 2018 including; (i) Rs 119.6 billion for CRBC (1st Lift-cum-Gravity) canal project DI Khan KP, (ii) Rs 3.82 billion for rehabilitation of irrigation system in KPK, (iii) Rs 8.58 billion for remodeling of Warsak Canal System Peshwar and Nowshera, (iv) Rs 2.885 billion for construction of small dams and Rs 5.16 billion for raising of Baran Dam, Bannu etc.
