Supreme Court on Thursday sought a detailed report from Capital Development Authority (CDA) pertaining to encroachment and allotment of land on lease in the surroundings of Rawal Dam. Appearing before a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the CDA official gave details about encroachment on state land which included illegal constructions in Mouza Lakhwal, Mouza Malpur, Dhoke Maira, Mouza Shahpur Bari Imam area and Kachi Abadi (slum) of Muslim Colony.
The court was also informed that hundreds of acres of land were leased for fifteen to thirty years whereas unauthorized development and encroachments are causing contamination to Rawal Lake. The additional attorney general for Pakistan submitted before the bench that the site plan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's residence in Banigala has not been approved since 1999.
Submitting documents about approval of building plan, the counsel for Khan, Advocate Babar Awan, said that his client had contacted the Union Council Bhara Kahu after purchasing the land in Banigala but the union council had no authority to approve the site plan. To which, the court asked Awan to get the document approved from the relevant authority within the next 20 days. The hearing of matter was adjourned for an indefinite period.
