Provincial Chief Commissioner Census Arif Anwar Baloch has said that census in Punjab would start from the city of Lahore from today (March 15). Talking to media in the provincial metropolis, he said, arrangements with regard to census have been finalised and the province of Punjab would witness census after a lapse of 19 years. He said the Constitution stipulates holding of census after every 10 years.
He said the census would enable equitable disbursement of resources. He said the eunuchs will also be counted in the census. Lists will also be sought from religious seminaries, jail and hospitals and the staff can also visit the inhabitants of these institutions individually as and if required.
He said the federal government has issued Rs 830 million for 62,000 staffers and the department would engage 5 070 vehicles on rent and special jackets would be provided to the staff for a distinction. He said there would 86842 blocks and each block would be consisted of 200 residences in villages and 250 residences in urban areas. He said the counting of residences would be completed in three days that would be followed by the census from 18th March.
He said first phase of census would be completed from 15th March to 14th April and the second phase would start from 25th April to 25th May. He said the census form would consist of three columns for male, female and eunuchs respectively. Every form would carry a secret code, which would be cancelled in case of lost or theft. He said census would be completed by 25th May and would be made public in the month of August.
