Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the summary for appointment of 6,000 doctors who have passed a written test of Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC). In this regard the chief minister has directed the health department to issue them offer letters. This, he said, while presiding over a meeting on Health Department to review policies and its development portfolio at New Sindh Secretariat on Thursday.
Those who attended the meeting include Health Minister Manzoor Wassan, Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon, Chairman Planning and Development Board M. Waseem, Secretary Health Fazal Pechuho, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi and other officers concerned. Minister Health Dr Sikandar Mendhro briefing the chief minister said that there were 8,128 sanctioned posts of grade B-17 medical officers, including 6,765 male and 1,363 female in Sindh against which 4,243 doctors were working. "This shows that 3,885 positions of doctors, including 3,329 male and 556 female are vacant," he said and went on saying that out of 3,885 position 377 were filled on contract basis in 2014.
Secretary Health Dr Fazal Pechuho said that there were 3,508 position of medical officers were vacant and 3,175 more have been created. This, over all, 6683 positions of medical officers are vacant all over Sindh.
The chief minister directed secretary health to issue offer letters to all those medical officers who have qualified SPSC written test. The secretary said that he has sent him a summary for the purpose. The chief minister called the summary and signed it then and there and directed health department to work out detailed posting plan for the new doctors and issue them offer letters. The chief minister also directed health department to regularise the services of 377 doctors who were appointed on contract basis in 2014.
