A special panel of the Senate on Thursday sought response from the federal ministries in a week on 24 demands forwarded by the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, pertaining to outstanding amounts of the provincial government as well as on issues related to provincial autonomy. The Special Committee of the Senate on 24 demands of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa met here with Syed Muzafar Hussain Shah in the chair.
The committee, after having thorough discussion on the provincial government's demands, sought written replies from the federal ministries and departments within a week. The Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presented response of the provincial government on 24 demands before the committee.
The Convenor of the committee Senator Muzafar Hussain Shah said that the panel would submit its final recommendations to the Senate after receiving replies from the federal ministries and their attached departments. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, in its 24 demands, had asked the federal government to provide outstanding amount of more than Rs 165.675 billion to the province in respect of net hydel profit, besides other issues related to provincial autonomy, after the passage of 18th Constitutional Amendment.
The meeting was attended by Senator Shibli Faraz, Senator Taj Haider, Senator Rehman Malik, Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak, and senior officials of various ministries, including water and power, petroleum and natural resources, planning, development and reforms, railways, ministry of finance, revenue, economic affairs, statistics and privatisation.
