SOFIA: Bulgaria's unemployment rate fell to 7.0 percent in February from 7.2 percent in January and 8.2 percent a year earlier as employment in processing industries and tourism picked up, data from the state employment agency showed on Thursday.
In February 230,611 people were unemployed in the Balkan country of 7.1 million, 6,711 fewer than a month earlier and more than 30,000 fewer than in February 2017. In February, 18,145 found work, the data said.
The agency, which calculates the jobless rate based on the number of officially registered unemployed, said 2,437 people were involved in government-sponsored programmes to get people back into work in February.
The finance ministry expects the unemployment rate to fall to 6.2 percent this year and drop further to 5.6 percent by 2020 as domestic demand picks up.
