Apex court indicts Talal Chaudhry in contempt of court case

The Supreme Court (SC) indicted on Thursday morning Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry in contempt of court case.

The three member bench, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan framed charges against the minister. Justice Afzal read out the charge sheet to which Chaudhry pleaded not guilty, local media reported.

Chaudhry's lawyer Kamran Murtaza had requested the SC to show the same restraint as it had shown against deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding contempt of court case.

However, later the bench observed they would give a chance to Chaudhry to defend himself. The SC then adjourned the hearing till March 27.

SC postpones Talal Chaudhry’s indictment in contempt case

On Wednesday, the SC had postponed Chaudhry's indictment as his lawyer had other commitments. The apex court had then adjourned his indictment to March 15 (today).

On February 2, the SC had issued a notice to Chaudhry for delivering disrespectful remarks against the judiciary and had summoned him to court. However, Chaudhry had denied and said, “I neither made person specific discussion nor criticized the judges during public meeting or media talks.”
