SC restores review petition against halting privitisation of PSM

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday restored review petition against its 2006 judgment which halted privitisation of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).
A nine-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Maqbool Baqar, Justice Faisal Arab, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah resumed the hearing of the case filed by Arif Habib Company.
During the course of proceedings, Advocate Khalid Anwar counsel for one of the petitioner appeared before the bench and informed that the court announced verdict in Steel Mills privatization case on June 30, 2006.
He said the court announced verdict against the privatisation. He said the review petition in the case was not fixed for hearing for almost seven years.
He said the case was dismissed when he was on general adjournment in June 2013. Upon this, the bench restored the review petition.
The court also suspended its previous order regarding dismissal of review petition and remarked that the review petition would be heard at appropriate time and adjourned hearing of the case till date in office.
