DOUMA: Dozens of trucks of emergency aid reached Syria's Eastern Ghouta on Monday, the first relief delivery since the start of a devastating assault on the rebel enclave near Damascus, the United Nations said.
The 46-truck convoy entered Douma, the main town in the battered enclave, the Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs (OCHA) in Syria said on social media.
It complained however that many key components of the intended shipment were not allowed in by the Syrian regime and called for life-saving health items to be permitted in a second convoy slated for Thursday.
"The United Nations, Syrian Red Crescent, the International Committee of the Red Cross are entering Douma in Eastern Ghouta," the UN agency said.
It said the convoy was bringing "health and nutrition supplies, along with food for 27,500 people in need."
An OCHA spokesperson however said "the UN and partners were informed that many of the planned health supplies intended for Douma were not allowed to be loaded and not permitted to be replaced with other life-saving items".
"The items included trauma kits and other life-saving supplies," Linda Tom told AFP.
