The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) summoned on Tuesday a response from Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan's (MQM-P) PIB faction chief Farooq Sattar in convener-ship petition.

Once the hearing commenced, Farooq’s lawyer Babar Sattar asked the ECP to grant him time to submit a reply. His request was objected by Farogh Naseem, representing Bahadurabad. The latter argued that the proceedings should not be postponed and Babar should submit his response today, as the Senate elections are scheduled to be held on March 3, local media reported. The ECP, however, adjourned the hearing to March 1.

Farooq Sattar elected as convener by MQM-P’s PIB faction

Rabita Committee had filed a petition in which it had challenged the intra-party elections held on February 18. Farooq had been elected as the convener in the intra-party elections. The Bahadurabad faction, however, had termed the intra-party elections as illegal.

Speaking to reporters outside the ECP premises, Kamran Tessori said that all steps will be taken to resolve the issue and prevent the party from being divided into two. He added that ECP's decision will be accepted by both the factions.

Meanwhile, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui convener elected by the Rabita Committe has said that Bahadurabad faction was open to negotiations.
