KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that after the 18th amendment film has become a provincial subject and his government will organize film festivals to promote films in the country.
He said this while addressing `Karachi Sub Ka: Asia Peace Film Festival' organized by the Sindh Culture Department in collaboration with Sindh Information Department at Expo Centre Karachi, said a statement on Friday.
He said that the theme of the festival `Karachi Sub ka' is an inspiring and appealing one. 'No doubt, Karachi being a moderate plural society belongs to each and everyone living here, doing business, connected directly or indirectly with the city,' he said.
Murad said, 'This ownership of the city will definitely further foster fraternity and brotherhood among the people of different languages, thoughts and religions.
The chief minister lauded the efforts of Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Sardar Shah for organizing such an event which shows the actual harmony in our society.
'The provincial government will continue its efforts for the promotion of films and restoration of Cinema industry in the province,' he said.
He further said that at the festival over 50 countries are participating and more than 109 pictures will be screened.
This is good for sharing technological experiences, script work, script techniques and picturizing techniques to explore film market in different countries, he said.
He said, 'I feel proud to see events like literary festival, food festival, film festival, musical programmes, literary sittings and other programmes in the city that was once target of terrorists, mafias, outlaws and gangsters.'
Murad said that today the Karachi city is emerging as a city of peace, tranquility, trade, industry and regaining its value as city of lights.
Adding that the peace film festival will help promote tourism. Earlier, the chief minister opned the four-day peace film festival which will continue till February 26.
